Public Health Nutrition Flashcards

Healthcare40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

Public health nutrition studies how diets and nutritional status vary across populations. The field combines nutrition science with epidemiology, behavioral science, economics, and policy to understand how food environments, social conditions, and government programs shape what people eat. This set moves through five subtopics: foundational concepts, nutrients and dietary reference values, methods for assessing population diets and nutritional status, policy and food environments, and communication, equity, and program evaluation. Within each group, the early cards define terms and the later cards show how those terms guide practical decisions.

Study the groups in order, because later cards assume vocabulary introduced earlier. Read each question, answer it aloud in your own words, and only then check the card. Keep a short list of terms that you confuse, such as prevalence and incidence or food security and food access, and review them before each session. For the applied cards, picture a community you know and ask which concept, measure, or program fits its situation. Spaced repetition over several short sessions works better than one long cram, and returning to missed cards builds lasting understanding.
