Master Data Management Flashcards

Technical40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

Master data management, usually called MDM, is the discipline of creating and maintaining a single, consistent, and trusted set of core business data such as customers, products, suppliers, locations, and accounts. This flashcard set covers the core ideas behind MDM, including what master data is, how it differs from transactional and reference data, the main architectural styles, data governance and stewardship, matching and survivorship rules, and the practical steps for measuring quality and running an MDM program.

The cards move in each group from foundational definitions to applied scenarios. Read the question, say the answer aloud in your own words, then compare it with the card. Pay special attention to the reasons behind each principle, because exam questions and workplace decisions often turn on why one approach fits better than another. Review the groups in order the first time, then shuffle them to test recall across topics. Revisit any card you miss, and try to connect each concept to an example from an organization you know, such as a retailer with duplicate customer records.
