JavaScript DOM Manipulation Flashcards

Technical40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

The Document Object Model, or DOM, is the browser's tree-shaped representation of an HTML page, and JavaScript uses it to read and change that page while it runs. This set covers the core skills needed for that work: selecting elements, updating text and attributes, managing CSS classes and inline styles, creating and removing nodes, and responding to user events.

To study effectively, read each question and answer out loud, then explain the idea in your own words before checking the answer. Pay close attention to the difference between a node and an element, between a live collection and a static one, and between textContent and innerHTML, since these distinctions cause many real bugs. When you finish a group, open a simple HTML file in your browser and try the ideas in the console or in a small script. Review missed cards at the end of each session, and return to earlier groups when you reach event handling, because later topics depend on earlier ones.
