Inventory Management Flashcards

Professional40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

Inventory management is the discipline of deciding how much stock to hold, when to reorder it, and where to keep it so that a business can meet customer demand without tying up excessive cash or space. This flashcard set covers the core ideas that appear in most introductory operations and supply chain courses, including the purpose of inventory, the main cost categories, demand and lead time concepts, reorder point and safety stock logic, economic order quantity, periodic and perpetual counting systems, and common performance measures such as turnover and fill rate.

To study effectively, work through one group at a time and say each answer aloud before checking it. Many questions build on earlier ones, so the order within each group is intentional. Try to explain why a formula works, not only what it equals, and sketch a small example with simple numbers such as a product that sells ten units per day. Review the cards after a short break, and revisit the harder groups several times over several sessions so the reasoning becomes familiar.
