Home Infusion Pharmacy Flashcards

Healthcare40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

Home infusion pharmacy is the branch of pharmacy practice that prepares, delivers, and monitors sterile medications and nutrition solutions given intravenously or by other parenteral routes in a patient's residence rather than in a hospital or clinic. Its work spans sterile compounding, packaging and labeling, coordinating deliveries, training caregivers in equipment use, keeping accurate records, and meeting quality and safety standards that apply to every step. Because the patient often manages therapy at home, clear communication among pharmacists, nurses, prescribers, and caregivers is essential.

This flashcard set is organized into five groups, moving from foundational terminology to applied situations. Start with the basic vocabulary and care setting, then study sterile preparation principles, delivery and equipment concepts, documentation practices, and finally quality systems and public health considerations. Read each question, state your answer aloud in your own words, and then compare it with the card. Repeating cards you miss, and connecting each group to the one before it, will help you see how a single prescription moves from order entry through preparation, delivery, and follow-up.
