Healthcare Communication Flashcards

Healthcare40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

Healthcare communication is the set of skills and systems people use to exchange accurate information about health, care, and services. It covers conversations between clinicians and patients, written records, team handoffs, and the way public health messages reach communities. Strong communication supports safety, trust, shared decision making, and efficient administration, while weak communication is linked to misunderstanding and avoidable errors.

These flashcards are organized in five groups that move from foundational ideas to applied practice. Start with the basic model of communication and the barriers that distort messages, then study listening, empathy, and rapport. Next, review health literacy and plain language, followed by documentation, structured handoffs, and team communication. Finally, practice applied situations such as difficult conversations, interpreter use, and cultural humility. Read each question, answer it aloud in your own words, and then check the card. Repeating cards you miss, and connecting each idea to a real workplace example, will make the material stick.
