Financial Statement Preparation Flashcards

Finance40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

This flashcard set covers how financial statements are prepared from business transactions. Financial statement preparation turns raw records into the reports that managers, lenders, investors, and regulators use to judge a company's performance and position. Topics move from the purpose of the main statements and the accounting equation, through recording transactions and building the income statement and balance sheet, to adjustments and the statement of cash flows.

Study each group in order, because later cards assume the ideas in earlier ones. Try to answer every question aloud before reading the answer, and check whether your reply names the key term and the reason behind it. Work a small example by hand after each group, such as a business with a few sales, a loan, and a purchase of equipment, and trace each amount to the statement where it belongs. Reviewing the cards in a mixed order a few days later helps move the ideas into long term memory. Pay special attention to the difference between revenue and cash, and between profit and cash flow, since these confusions appear again and again.
