Community Health Nursing Flashcards

Healthcare40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

Community health nursing focuses on the health of populations, families, and groups, not only individual patients. This topic draws on nursing, public health, epidemiology, and social science to prevent disease, promote wellness, and reduce health differences across a community. The cards move from foundational ideas, such as the difference between a population and an aggregate and the role of social determinants, through levels of prevention and the language of epidemiology, to data use, community assessment and diagnosis, and finally program planning, records, and quality systems.

To study effectively, read each group in order because later ideas depend on earlier ones. Say each answer aloud in your own words before checking it, and pay attention to the terms that appear in several groups, such as incidence, prevalence, and outcome. Try to connect each concept to a real community you know, such as a school, neighborhood, or workplace, and ask how the concept would change your planning. Working through the cards this way builds the reasoning that community nurses use every day.
