Cash Flow Forecasting Flashcards

Finance40 Questions and AnswersFreeUpdated Sep 2026

Cash flow forecasting estimates the cash a business expects to receive and pay over a future period, usually weeks, months, or a year. It helps managers judge whether they can meet payroll, pay suppliers, repay debt, and fund growth without running out of cash. This set moves from core vocabulary, such as operating, investing, and financing cash flows, to the forecasting methods and applied decisions that follow.

Study the groups in order, and try to answer each question aloud before reading the answer. Pay close attention to the difference between cash and profit, because a profitable business can still run short of cash when customers pay slowly. Once a term feels familiar, practice building a simple forecast on paper with a starting balance, expected receipts, expected payments, and a closing balance for each period. Checking your forecast against actual results is one of the most useful habits you can build. Review any card you miss, then return to it later to confirm the idea has stuck.
