Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited, known as TARIL, said on Tuesday that it will invest Rs 1,250 crore to build three greenfield manufacturing plants at its Chiyada complex in Gujarat. The company said in an exchange filing that the facilities will make components essential to high-voltage transformer production, as India expands its electricity transmission network to meet rising demand and connect renewable energy.
The announcement places the expansion inside a wider national push to strengthen power equipment supply chains. India is adding transmission corridors and modernizing its grid, and transformer makers need steady access to specialized parts. Shortages of components can slow production schedules and equipment deliveries even when assembly capacity is adequate, the company indicated.
What the Plants Will Produce
The first facility will manufacture bushings using oil-impregnated paper, resin-impregnated paper and resin-impregnated fiber, rated up to 800 kilovolts. The second will produce pressboard and insulation materials that maintain electrical insulation inside transformers. The third will make continuously transposed conductors, which are used in transformer windings to manage electrical losses. The company said these inputs require controlled processes and specialized testing.
The three units will operate under a wholly owned consolidated ancillary subsidiary. TARIL said this structure gives it control over technology, procurement, quality and delivery schedules while supporting its vertical integration strategy. The company also aims to reduce dependence on outside suppliers and improve the availability of raw materials such as copper and grain-oriented electrical steel, which remain important cost considerations in power equipment manufacturing.
Jobs and Revenue Potential
Once fully operational, the plants are expected to create more than 1,000 direct jobs across engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality assurance and research and development. The company estimates annual revenue potential of about Rs 2,000 crore at full ramp-up. That figure compares with consolidated revenue from contracts with customers of Rs 2,461.71 crore in FY2025-26, according to the filing. TARIL reported September 2026 net sales of Rs 739.44 crore, up 60.74 percent year on year, supported by stronger execution and plant utilization.
Construction began in December 2025, and commercial operations are targeted for the first quarter of FY2027-28, covering April to June 2027. The company has previously faced delays, including a four-to-five-month hold on its Changodar expansion, so commissioning and production stabilization will be the main tests of the plan.
What It Means for Workers
For job seekers in Gujarat and elsewhere in India, the project points to demand for electrical, mechanical and quality specialists trained in high-voltage component work. Bushing production, insulation manufacturing and conductor winding involve precision processes and testing regimes that typically call for shop-floor technicians, process engineers and quality inspectors. Analysts note that such roles often require familiarity with factory safety rules and regulated production standards, not only assembly skills.
The hiring will be spread across disciplines rather than concentrated in one trade. The company listed engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality assurance and research and development among the functions that will staff the plants, suggesting openings for both experienced supervisors and newer technical graduates as the facilities move from construction to commissioning.
What to watch next is whether the company meets its April 2027 target and whether component output eases supply constraints for transformer makers. Also worth tracking is how much of the promised hiring happens locally in Gujarat and whether the plants reduce import needs for bushings and conductors. The company said the investment supports its broader integration plan, which also covers electrical steel processing and other components.
