Roblox has released an economic impact report on India, prepared by the consultancy Access Partnership, showing that Indian creators now earn a larger share of their income from players abroad than from players at home. The findings were shared at the company's UNBOX ROBLOX event in New Delhi this week, where the platform also outlined recent features and game launches.

India has more than 500 million gamers, making it the second-largest gaming population in the world, according to the report. It projects industry revenue in the country rising from Rs 6,300 crore in 2025 to Rs 9,200 crore by 2028, equal to annual growth of 13 percent, compared with 5.1 percent for the global industry.

Creator payouts and daily players

The number of Indian creators eligible for Roblox payouts grew at a compound annual rate of 96 percent between 2020 and 2025, passing 250 in 2025. Total payouts over the same period rose 72 percent a year. Among surveyed creators who publish on several platforms, Roblox accounts for 61 percent of their total creation revenue.

Roblox's managing director for India and South Asia said daily active users in India grew 64 percent year on year in the quarter ending June 30, 2026. The company has not disclosed how many Indians use the platform, but the report says daily users grew at a compound annual rate of 76 percent over the five years to 2025.

The report surveyed 204 creators and 207 users between May and June 2026. Of the creators, 94 percent said they can build games on Roblox with minimal prior experience, and 91 percent described its tools as genuinely helpful for learning. More than six in ten said they first learned through video tutorials, while only 24 percent said a school or club had taught them.

Overseas audiences and economic footprint

On average, users outside India made up 52 percent of daily players on games built by Indian creators and produced 55 percent of their revenue. The United States, the United Kingdom and Japan were the leading export markets, and 92 percent of surveyed creators said the platform helps their games reach users worldwide.

Access Partnership estimates that Roblox-related creator activity contributed about Rs 123.9 crore, or US$14.8 million, to India's GDP between 2020 and 2025. The same estimate links the activity to roughly 510 full-time-equivalent jobs across the economy in 2025. The report also points to freelance work, digital fashion and online learning as areas where creators are active.

What it means for workers and what to watch

For people working in creative and technical roles, the study suggests that a growing share of income in Indian game development may come from self-directed projects and global audiences. Surveyed creators said they earn mainly through Creator Rewards, developer products and game passes, with each source cited by roughly 56 to 57 percent of respondents.

The figures come from a study prepared for Roblox, so the estimates have not been independently verified in the materials reviewed. Readers should also note that the survey sample is limited to 204 creators. Future releases from Roblox, any independent assessments of the GDP and job estimates, and official data on India's gaming workforce will show whether these trends hold.
