April is Citizen Science Month, and NOAA has launched a new, searchable catalog of citizen science projects to connect volunteers with research opportunities across the country.
The catalog makes it easier for individuals, educators, and community groups to discover and participate in projects that are fun, educational, and contribute to NOAA’s scientific mission, including weather observation, marine ecosystem monitoring, sea floor mapping, and more. There are many ways to get involved, whether you’re getting outdoors or participating on your computer or phone.
Citizen science plays a critical role in expanding NOAA’s data collection and analysis capabilities while also strengthening community engagement. Volunteers contribute valuable observations that help inform forecasting models, track environmental changes, and support decision-making at local and national levels. Watch a recorded webinar from the program to learn more about increasing implementation of citizen science across NOAA.
