Celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday!

This story appears in a slightly different version in the May/June issue of the Library of Congress Magazine. The Library invites you to join in our celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday this year, as we’re offering a range of exhibits and programs that bring the American experience to life. The theme is “It’s Your Story.”  A new exhibition, “The Declaration’s Promise,” which will be highlighting treasures such as Thomas Jefferson’s rough draft of the Declaration of Independence and Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address opens July 3. (The Library has a long history with the original copies of the Constitution.) Then in September, the exhibit “Alive in Many Hands” marks 50 years of the Library’s American Folklife Center, celebrating the center’s work in capturing and sharing living cultural traditions from every corner of the United States. Plus, the popular “The Two Georges: Parallel Lives in an Age of Revolution” — the ongoing exhibition bringing George Washington and King George III together through their own words and artifacts — has been extended through July 4.
